The Old Railway Terminus

The railway arrived in 1859, connecting Framlingham with the world via Campsea Ashe and impacting town life at every level. It ferried school boys to/from the new Albert Memorial College until passenger services ceased in 1952. Goods trains continued almost until the branch line’s closure in 1965.

A handful of the original station buildings survive on Victoria Mill Road. The old station sits behind the celebratory oak tree planted in 1911 for George V’s coronation. The Station Hotel still thrives as a pub, whilst modern homes fill the former railway sidings, designed with a nod to earlier goods sheds.
