Mills Almshouses (1705)

Bramford-born wheelwright, Thomas Mills, left instruction in his will for six Almshouses to be built. His friend, William Mayhew, went on to add two more. The fine terrace of one bedroom dwellings with their bright red front doors and pretty gardens is Grade II* listed. The Mills Almshouses are administered by The Mills Charity which safeguards and shares the great benefactor’s legacy.

Mills came to Framlingham in 1640 and inherited his employer’s business in 1660. He married well and died a rich man with no heirs in 1703. But where was he buried…?
