Hitcham’s Almshouses (1654)

In his will, Framlingham Castle owner, Sir Robert Hitcham, made provision for homes to support 12 poor local souls. They were subsequently built with Tudor bricks salvaged from the interior demolition of his castle! At the end of the row, the later school building (1789) is now the Masonic Hall.
